ARTIFACT 3 Below left:Another artifact connected to NELP Standard 3 is the Salem-Keizer Public Schools webpage that provides guidance for staff on supporting students and families who may be impacted by immigration issues. This page includes clear explanations of what staff need to know, as well as important “dos and don’ts” regarding documentation, safety, confidentiality, and culturally responsive communication with immigrant or mixed-status families. Because Standard 3 emphasizes equitable treatment, responsiveness to diverse family needs, and the removal of systemic barriers, this artifact demonstrates how district policies are intentionally designed to protect vulnerable students and uphold their rights. As an aspiring administrator, I find this webpage to be an essential resource, not only because it outlines expectations for equitable practice, but also because it models how leaders can communicate complex information in an accessible, supportive way. School and district websites, especially Salem-Keizer’s website is invaluable tools for staying informed about current policies, legal updates, family communication, and culturally responsive practices. It is important for administrators to regularly review and navigate these online resources so they can remain aware of the information being shared with families and staff. By intentionally setting aside time to explore the website and understand its contents, I am building habits that will allow me to use this tool as a reliable, day-to-day resource that strengthens my ability to lead with clarity, equity, and cultural awareness.

Artifact 4 is a video of Salem-Keizer Superintendent Andrea Castañeda providing an immigration update to staff, families, and the broader community. I chose this video as an artifact because it demonstrates the critical role district leadership plays in communicating clearly, compassionately, and consistently with multilingual and immigrant communities—many of whom face fear, uncertainty, or confusion during moments of policy change. As an aspiring administrator, I believe it is essential to closely examine how district leaders model communication that is inclusive, culturally responsive, and grounded in dignity and respect for all families. Watching Superintendent Castañeda speak openly, calmly, and with heartfelt sincerity reinforces my belief that equity-driven leadership requires not only accurate information, but also empathy, human connection, and intentional messaging that builds trust. I deeply respect the authenticity and care she brings to her communication, and observing her leadership in this video inspires me in my own current and future work. This artifact reminds me that administrators must continually evaluate how our communication practices impact vulnerable student groups, and it reinforces my commitment to serving immigrant families with transparency, cultural awareness, and compassion in every interaction.
